Everyone thinks that you’re supposed to offer someone something they need, and they’ll buy it for sure. That couldn’t be farther from the truth. Bob Dylan knew what he was talking about when he wrote this song. He wrote it from the point of view of a potential lover who is trying to convince Dylan she’s the one for him, because his current lover only knows what Dylan needs…but this girl knows what he WANTS!

See, here’s a true fact of life – People don’t buy what they need! They buy what they WANT! Don’t believe me? Here’s a perfect example.

Let’s say this guy Eric has a broken window on his car, and he needs to get it fixed. Well, let’s say it costs $200 to fix the window and he’s finally got the dough saved up…but one of his best friends called, and told him that they got the tee time they’ve been trying to get for 6 months on that really nice golf course, but it’s $200 a round.

What do you think Eric is going to do? You know what he’s going to do. And it ain’t fixing the freakin’ window! Eric will throw that cash at the golf round in a heart beat! People are always going to buy what they “WANT,” instead of what they “need.”

People make decisions based on emotions and feelings, and the sooner you realize that people are ALWAYS going to buy things that they WANT before the things they need…the better off you’ll be! More on this topic in future posts.
